Editorial Standards

Our editorial standard is designed to make every article useful, traceable and honest about its limits. Design quality matters, but it never substitutes for evidence or clear disclosure.

Reader-first commissioning

We begin with a real consumer decision: choosing a material, comparing formats, understanding care, evaluating service or deciding which features matter. A topic must have a useful purpose beyond attracting a click. We define the audience, market, language and decision criteria before drafting.

Evidence and attribution

Writers separate stable facts from seller claims, individual preferences and editorial interpretation. We favor official government guidance, recognized standards bodies, primary manufacturer documentation and other sources suited to the question. Material claims are recorded in a source ledger with an access or verification date.

No invented experience

We do not claim that we bought, wore, drove, tasted, measured or privately tested something unless that work actually occurred and can be documented. We do not invent experts, qualifications, survey results, customer reviews, awards, prices, warranty terms or performance data.

Fair comparisons

A comparison uses the same decision criteria for each option. We identify meaningful differences, ownership demands and buyer fit rather than declaring a universal winner. Time-sensitive details such as prices, inventory, promotions and seller policies must be checked near publication and clearly dated.

Safety and sensitive subjects

We do not publish sexual or explicit material; violence, weapons, illegal drugs, tobacco, gambling, religious or political advocacy, hate or extremist material, criminal instructions, speculative investment promises, or unsubstantiated medical claims. Beauty, fitness, food and pet coverage is general consumer information and does not diagnose or treat a condition. Auto and motorcycle content excludes dangerous driving and illegal modification.

Images and visual truth

Images must be original, licensed or supplied with documented permission. Generated editorial images must not imitate a real branded product, invent certifications or suggest a test that did not happen. We avoid watermarks, embedded marketing text and sensitive imagery. Reused cover photography is limited to the same article across its archive card, article header and sharing metadata.

Corrections and updates

Substantive errors are corrected promptly after review. Articles display a fact-check date when a structured source check has been completed. Readers can submit a correction to admin@activecodes.co.uk.

Commercial independence

Commercial relationships do not guarantee coverage or a favorable conclusion. Affiliate compensation, when applicable, is disclosed before the first affiliate link. Sponsored work is labeled and is subject to our advertising policy.
